Haynes Toyota Camry Automotive Repair Manual: All Toyota Camry and Avalon Models 1992 Through 1996
Published in Paperback by Haynes Publishing (January, 2000)
Authors: Robert Maddox, John H. Haynes, and Haynes Manuals
Average review score:

So-So
With Haynes and Chilton's, you pretty much get what you pay, although in my opinion you get a little bit more from hayens than chiltons...but that's another topic. as far as manuals go, you're always better off with the 3 volumes of the toyota factory manuals ... for the three volumes-but are much better quality than these other two manuals. as far as this manual goes, it's not bad, there's some good information (that is if you care about dismantling your entire engine block and suspension/struts/shocks the whole 360) as far as simple things like knowing which wires to replace your speakers with, or tearing out the door panel to grant access to a window driver cable...this book is a little iffy. not great photos by any means, all b&w. this book is dominated by photos for the more mechanically inclined tasks, with only one section reserved for the actual interior of the car itself. it's not a bad manual, even still the mechanical instructions are not that great themselves, but still...it's better than nothing. I'd recommend these to any DIY person, you gain a little insight into the inner-workings of your car and how they're put together-but NOT how they work. for ex: I would like to DIY install an anti-roll bar for my suspension for my camry, this book doesn't venture into how to install after-market parts, or even how the original OEM parts all work together, JUST how to disassemble and reassmeble the car's OEM parts.
overall: 3.5 really, but you're better off with the toyota factory manuals (the same manuals your mechanic uses).

Great book on the 92-96 series Camry
Perfect book for general through advanced auto repair on the Camry. Relevant information on this series of Camry. I am very satisfied with this book.

Well organized and written
Well organized and plenty of diagrams and specifications. Great for the hobbyist mechanic.

Death Spiral - An Avalon Mystery
Published in Hardcover by Avalon Books (24 June, 2000)
Author: Clyde Linsley
Average review score:

An old friend delivers a solid first novel.
Clyde Linsley has written a highly entertaining first novel, a tasty little tale best devoured in one or two sittings so you can concentrate on the trail of clues followed by youthful private eye Leo McFarlin. With only about 210 pages to work with, Linsley fashions a fully developed character in McFarlin, a young man working on his third career and with a special reason to empathize with teenage figure skater Debbie Liston, the target of death threats if she does not give up competitive skating. Hired to protect Debbie by her mother, once a highly promising young skater herself, McFarlin soon finds himself in more danger than his client. I must confess to having more than an impartial interest in this book: Clyde Linsley is a longtime friend and former colleague at the Hartford Times. So I certainly want "Death Spiral" to be successful. And I'm happy to say that, after reading it, I can recommend it with a clear conscience. Way to go, Clyde!

Competition in Ice Skating
This book provides basic insight into the world of ice skating for someone whose only knowledge of competitive skating comes from the Nancy Kerrigan - Tonya Harding affair.

Linsley writes in the style of an early Robert Parker but without the extraneous trips into the culinary world.

Althoug there is some predictability, this novel has some unpredictabilities. The characters are given identities that we all can recognize. As a first novel, it gives a hope for future adventures of the investigator, Leo McFarlin.

Kularnava Tantra

Author: Arthur Avalon

Something you should know before buying this book...
About half the text is in Sanskrit. I wish I knew this before I ordered. I can't read Sanskrit. The rest is good, but I really feel like I'm missing something...

Essential text
This is one of the major primary text sources for detailed descriptions of cakrapuja and panca-makara, two ritual protocols that are central to the understanding of Tantric cosmogonic beliefs and sociopolitics. A welcome reissue and a must for any serious student of Tantrism.

Murder Flies Left Seat (Avalon Mystery)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (24 February, 1998)
Author: Jackie Lewin
Average review score:

A mixed bag
Since she hates flying in small aircraft, when Grace Beckmann and her husband Albert arrive at the airfield to take a quick jaunt in his beloved Piper Turbo Arrow, she is ecstatic that the plane is missing from the hanger. Jann, the wife of the airplane's co-owner took the plane without notice. Albert and Grace's irritation soon turns to concern, as the plane crashes killing Jann. When it turns out to be sabotage, Grace thinks she and Albert might have been the intended victims, and so she starts investigating the case.

I should have been able to identify with Grace, as she and I are similar in many ways (same age, both married with children). However, I failed to connect with her (a definite minus for me), and she didn't seem to enjoy her life at all.

While I was able to figure out some of the intrigue, I didn't figure out who had sabotaged the plane to kill Jann, so the author was successful in that area (a definite plus).

If you enjoy flying small planes or flying in them, you'll probably enjoy reading MURDER FLIES LEFT SEAT.

A sure winner with suspense, thrills, and aviation to boot.
This book is a real treat. It is well written, it keeps you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out who done it, and just when you think you have a clue, the plot banks sharply to the left. Albert Beckman is a Denver doctor who owns a plane, although his wife Grace is not keen about flying. When the plane is stolen and then crashes having been sabotaged, the question is, was someone out to get them? The plot thickens when the pilot is identified as the wife of the co-owner. Could it be a marital spat? The result of dirty dealings in the bio-technology industry? Or was it just ordinary skulduggery related to drug smuggling. I really liked the characters, the airplane stuff was very realistic, and the twists in the plot kept me reading on. A book for both men and women, and you won't be embarrassed to have your kids read it as well.

Project Avalon
Published in Paperback by Space Available Press (22 May, 1998)
Author: B. Alexander Howerton
Average review score:

Great hard SF, with undertones of Arthurian legend
Alexander Howerton writes a great hard SF novel about the need for a manned colony on the moon within a compelling and entertaining story. Woven into the story are characters and elements from the legend of King Arthur. You'll have fun trying to match up the characters in Project Avalon with their counterparts in Arthurian legend.

Feels like the space activist community as it wishes to be.
...found this book to be a satisfying, if thinly veiled, treatise on the prospect of near future Lunar Colonization.

If you believe that mankind is destined to live in space, you will find yourself sympathetic to this author and his characters.

You may enjoy the threads that reach further into mankind's collected legend than the traditional bow to Heinlein, Niven, Bova, or Clarke.

A pleasant way to taste the culture of today's space activist community. This book represents them well.

Shannon's Law - An Avalon Western
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (24 April, 2000)
Author: Charles E. Friend
Average review score:

The Protagonist?
I share the name of this book's protagonist; and that's primarily why I bought the book (out of curiosity). People are always telling me I have a "cowboy name", and I guess Mr. Friend's use of it (my name) underscores that feeling. I have also been told I look like I am, or should be, a cowboy on more occasions than I can recount. THEREFORE, if this book is ever made into a movie, wouldn't it be only fitting that I play the lead role (Clay Shannon as Clay Shannon)?

Shannon's Law
No mistakening it, this is another excellent story by Charles E. Friend as he sets out to show that justice prevails when he is wearing the badge. I love the stories that Mr. Friend presents on paper for us to read. He is an excellent storyteller whose writing is strong and keeps one turning the pages. This is a five star book.

Excellent!
"Lively characters in a leisurely read, with a subtle plot and succulent setting. Excellent!" ~ Jillian Dagg, Author of Racing Hearts, Avalon Books

Soliloquy - Fine Writers Online
Cheryl Cooke Harrington has an incredibly fantastic way with words! Of course, you might too, if you took the admonishment to "write what you know" so seriously that you'd learn to pilot a Cessna in order to write about flying!

Avalon (Ccm Lifelines)
Published in Paperback by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (March, 1900)
Authors: Merrill Fenning and CCM Magazines
Average review score:

Avalon Book
CCM's Lifelines book on Avalon is probably the only book you'll find that gives you the scoop on the life of the members of Avalon, one of Christian Music's best vocal groups. The book talks about how the group formed and became popular and what their life is like traveling, in the studio, and in general. There are sections that talk about each person's bio, and the group altogether. The book also includes vivid color photos that will bring Avalon to your perspective.

Avalon of the heart

A poignant testament to the magic, and power of Avalon
Dion Fortune manages to capture the ethereal feel of Avalon and transform it into beautiful prose, understood by anyone who has a living soul. After visiting Avalon, her words alone seem to fittingly describe that "holiest earth in England." Avalon of the Heart is a testament to both the unique history, and spiritual path of the isle of Avalon. But more than anything, it is a testament to the love Dion Fortune, and anyone else who has been there, feels for that holiest of places.

Daring To Love Again (Avalon Romance)
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (December, 2000)
Author: Mary Anne Taylor
Average review score:

Sweet and Romantic
I enjoyed Mrs. Taylor's novel very much. It was an easy to read easy going romance tale. The story was believeable. Mrs. Taylor wrote from the heart. She must be a woman who understands romance and love. She writes in such an easy to read style. The book can be easily read in a short time. I don't want to give away the story, because I like surprise endings. I'll just say I love romances that end up happily ever after.
